Are you thinking of buying any aquarium books? Buying
them online is often a lot cheaper than purchasing books from retail
outlets.
Don't keep them in your fish room as they will become subject to the
mould and mildew that can develop where humidity is high.
Most public libraries will also have an excellent selection that is
available to learn from. Fish clubs may also keep a specialised
aquarium library that is available for it's members to borrow. Many
useful fish publications are now out of print so always treat any
titles borrowed with care.
One such example of a useful book is,
Cichlids from West Africa: A Handbook for Their Identification,
Care, and Breeding.
This guide to West African Cichlids has a large repository
of information for those people interested in the world’s most colourful cichlid genus (Pelvicachromis) along with other
information on Nanochromis, Steatocranus and a few other
west African genera.
Written in 1995, it contains some older
taxonomic names, but cichlid taxonomy is a shifting field and
the information remains just as relevant regardless.
The authors
Horst Linke and Wolfgang Staeck are cichlid lovers and their
enthusiasm for these fishes leap off the pages. A recommended
buy for anyone interested in trying their hand at something
other than the never ending flow of mouthbrooders from the rift
lakes.
