This idea comes from Lloyd (Iamguiness), another ACE forums member.
Lloyd raised the possibility of using Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) as alternative, excuse the pun, for the ‘Real McCoy’ of Catjeput Oil (M. quinquenervia) as is used in Melafix and similar products.
From his posts on the subject Lloyd was getting good results using “Alternafix” as a broad-spectrum anti-microbial medications that assists in the healing of wounds.
Lloyd’s original method used 1ml to 120ml of water, of this stock solution the dosage rate was 5ml/40L daily.
I’ve also done some testing using my 1:100 ml stock, slightly stronger than Lloyds and have not had any problems. Its difficult to determine without running appropriate controls, however, my observations suggest fish with wounds heal quicker with a dose of Alternafix.
Alternafix is also very cheap to make and comes recommended.
