fish tank filter works really well (I have a similar
flower pot design) and is very cheap to construct. The diagrams are
self-explanatory. When cleaning is due the filter can be dismantled and
reassembled.
Although the materials are inexpensive the principle is the same as many
commercial
box filters.
You could also adapt the filter design to use other materials that may
be more convenient for you.
